THE 4 C'S OF DIAMONDS

Diamond grading is based on four fundamental characteristics known as the 4Cs: Carat, Cut, Color, and Clarity. These criteria allow diamonds to be evaluated and compared accurately and objectively, helping to determine their quality and value in the jewelry market. Let's look at each of the 4Cs in detail:

Carat: The carat is a measure of the weight of a diamond. One carat is equal to 0.2 grams and is divided into 100 points, allowing for precision in measurement. As the carat increases, so does the size of the diamond. However, it is important to note that size is not the only factor that influences value; the quality of the other 3Cs is also crucial.

Cut: Cut refers to the shape and proportions of the diamond, as well as the quality of its cut. Cut influences how the diamond reflects light and creates its characteristic sparkle. An excellent cut maximizes brilliance, fire, and scintillation. Cut categories include “Excellent,” “Very Good,” “Good,” “Fair,” and “Poor.”

Color: Color is evaluated on a scale ranging from D (colorless) to Z (diamonds with visible color tones). Diamonds with colors closer to D are considered more valuable, as they reflect more light and appear whiter. Diamonds with lower colors (towards Z) may have noticeable yellow or brown tones.

Clarity: Clarity refers to the number and size of inclusions and internal blemishes in a diamond. A higher clarity rating indicates that the diamond has fewer blemishes. The clarity scale includes categories such as “Flawless,” “Internally Flawless,” “VVS” (Very Very Small Inclusions), “VS” (Very Small Inclusions), “SI” (Small Inclusions), and “I” (Visible Inclusions).

The combination of these four unique factors allows buyers and jewelry professionals to understand and compare diamonds more accurately. Every diamond is unique and the choice will depend on personal preference and budget of each individual, allowing for the creation of unique and dazzling jewelry that shines with the characteristic brilliance and beauty of diamonds.
